In Dante Gabriel Rossetti's Beata Beatrix, the artist returns to his favorite trope of paralleling his own life with that of the Florentine poet, Dante Alighieri. In this pastel he memorializes the loss of his wife Elizabeth Siddal by portraying her as a nouveau Beatrice.
