S.T.Konenkov’s work is characterized by the subtle understanding in the expressive uniqueness of his material (marble, bronze, wood) and his ability to reveal natural beauty and to transform it into sculptural qualities in his work. The warm colour of the wood and its texture sophisticatedly play in the artist’s sculpture, "Girl". The creation of the figure and the girl’s pose are traditional, but the skilful use of the material makes the image anything but trivial. Shortly prior to starting work on this sculpture Konenkov made a trip to Greece. The impression made by the monuments of antiquity undoubtedly left their mark on his work. However the use of ancient heritage is indirectly evident here and is transformed by the modern perception of beauty as an ideal by the sculptor
